Mike Petty was born in London, England sometime in the last century, contrary to what his 2 teenage sons believe. He was educated in England, firstly near where he was born in Notting Hill (of movie fame) and then at St. Marylebone Grammar School which was established in 1792 (his sons ask him what happened at the opening ceremony). He graduated with G.C.E. “O” levels and “A” levels. He joined the London Metropolitan Police and walked the beat around London Docks and Elephant and Castle for 3 years.
He emigrated from England to Canada in 1967 and landed in Montreal (to see Expo 67), then he boarded a train to Saskatoon en-route to Moose Jaw to join the Police. On the train he met a farmer from Prud’homme who said “Just stay in Saskatoon”, so he did, which upset the Federal Immigration Department as they had already sent his file to Moose Jaw. He applied to join the Saskatoon Police and while waiting, worked in a floor covering warehouse, furniture warehouse (doing an investigation for a private detective agency) and finally assisting in doing autopsies at City Hospital. He joined the Police in June 1968 and retired at the end of January 2006. |

He obtained a BAC (Business Administration Certificate) from the U. of S. in 2001 and went through various training courses in the Police, including K9 training, baton training, firearms training and pepper spray training, though he doubts if these will be of much help in Royal Arch. He married Marg in 1988 and they have 2 teenage boys. He lives out of Saskatoon on an acreage near Pike Lake with 1 horse, 1 dog (who, despite all his learning in the techniques of dog handling, does whatever she wants to do) and a variable number of cats. He is a Board Member of Canadian Mental Health Association, Saskatoon Branch. He also acts as roadie, photographer and sound man for the award winning group “Joy of Jammin’” which was started by 3 therapists, his wife being one of them, and is comprised of mental health managers, clients and therapists. |
